The Brazos Valley Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is seeking volunteers in Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson and Washington counties to advocate for residents living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Volunteer ombudsmen visit residents, identify and investigate complaints, and educate residents, families, and facility staff on protecting the health, safety, welfare, and rights of individuals living in long-term care settings. Ombudsman services are free and confidential. Volunteers must be at least 18-years old and complete a free, 36-hour training course that includes classroom, self-study and in-facility training. No prior experience is required. Hours are flexible and determined by each volunteer. If you have one hour per week to make a difference in someone’s life, please contact Shazia Sultan at (979) 595-2801, extension 2025 or for more information.

Rock Hounds will meet every second Thursday of the month at  6:30 pm which is on June 10th, located at 102 S. McIver in the old Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist church of Madisonville. Madison County Republican Party meets on the third Thursday of each month, that’s June 17th at 7pm in the Annex Room of the Courthouse.

Adult General Education Diploma (GED) classes will be held from 8am to 12 Noon every Monday thru Thursday at 714 Bacon St. in Madisonville, there is no charge for attending or materials. For more information please call 936)349-8003 or on Facebook     


Brazos Valley Community Action Agency is accepting applications for its Head Start program for the upcoming school Year. Contact the center for more information at 936-348-3915. Head Start of Madisonville is a preschool program that provides comprehensive educational social services to eligible children. Celebrate Recovery, is a 12 Step Christ Centered Recovery Program. Bring your hurts, habits and hang -ups, addictions, grief, anger, etc. We meet every Thursday @ 6:30pm, located @ 900 West Trinity, Madisonville in the “Celebrate Recovery Class Room”.
